清道光五年（1825年）山东登州贫苦农民韩元毓，携家来到关东，其子韩宪宗迫于生计，闯入清朝的封禁地柳条边，进入长白山采参，并在人迹罕至的夹皮沟一带发现金矿，此后他历尽波折，九死一生，聚集数以万计的流民，胼手胝足，筚路蓝缕，开发金矿，渔猎垦荒。在大清朝的明令封禁区内建起“形同割据，权若政府，以一人之声威，守护数百里安危”，极具传奇特色的共金王国，成为“一代金王”。其孙韩登举继承大业后，时值中日甲午战争，他代祖出征，转战辽海，重创日寇，被时人称为“劲旅”，令日寇闻风丧胆。其后，韩登举在沙俄入侵吉林、吉林将军长顺妥协投降的严峻形势下，他毁家纾难，拒敌兵于蚂蚁岭下，重创了俄军。又在日寇炮制所谓“间岛”问题，妄图霸占我国东北大片国土之时，以武力赴延边，保障了吴禄贞对日谈判成功，维护了国家的尊严和领土完整。1919年，爱国奇杰韩登举逝世，韩家第四代当家人韩锦堂耽于享乐，“九一八”事变后，夹皮沟金矿被日本人侵占，一代金王建立的基业易主。
